Electrobroc is an active power plant and a big exhibition on the theme of energy production in Broc dans la Gruyère.
Parking just next to Electrobroc.
The free visit of the factory is done with a guide and on reservation. It takes place a few Saturdays a month and during school holidays. It allows you to discover a plant in operation with its turbines as well as about ten jobs in the energy sector. The 1200 m2 of the exhibition allows, with the help of models, to understand the mode of production of electricity as well as its transmission through the network. The workshop on the effects of very high voltage electricity is the most impressive.
Some of the workshops offered by Electrobroc are listed below:
- The turbine room of the power plant
- Energy sources
- Energy bike
- The animated model
- The operation of an alternator
- Demonstration of the greenhouse effect
- The lightning simulator
- The consumption area
- The beginning of domestic electricity
The power plant
The power plant includes 4 Francis turbines that receive water from the Montsalvens dam through a 2 km long penstock and a 100 m drop. These turbines produce electricity at a rate of 70 GWh/year. By way of comparison, Grande Dixence‘s infrastructure produces nearly 3’000 GWh/year. For more details on dams and power plants, we recommend the Torpille team page about hydroelectricity.
At the end of the visit, a snack is offered to the visitor.
The outdoor learning path
Since 2018, Electrobroc has been offering an outdoor route of around ten stations presenting the hydroelectric power plant and its environment.
